Review of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) by Wendy S — 13 Feb 2009
Stewart at his best. This was supposed to be a sequel to "Mr. Deeds goes to Town", but Gary Cooper wasn't available, so they changed it to Smith and got Jimmy to do it. I can't imagine it any other way.
James Stewart got a best actor oscar nomination for this one and well deserved. (He won the NY Critics Choice) Jean Arthur is always good. One of my favorite Frank Capra films. Makes you wish that politicians today had the heart that Smith has in this movie.
I haven't seen it in a long time. I need to get it out and watch it again.
