Review of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) by Brett B — 27 Feb 2009
One of the great American films, period (and a long-time personal favorite of mine). This is a movie that says it's okay to feel proud of your country, and anyone who still has some idealism left will find much to love here.
Stewart's final scenes (during the filibuster) are incredible to watch, and he is ably supported throughout the film by Jean Arthur and Claude Rains, both of whom are terrific. A film that absolutely everyone needs to see before they die.
