Review of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) by Mike W — 28 Feb 2009
Fantastic! Could so easily have been too fervently patriotic to be palatable to any but the most all-american of all americans, but manages such a note-perfect focus on that which encapsulates the very best of the american ideal, being the enduring decency of the human spirit throughout persecution, and does so with such a wonderful performance at the helm from Jimmy Stewart, that ultimately it's a charismatic, captivating gem.
And it's always nice to watch a film a full 70 years old, and find that it's still deeply relevant today.
