Review of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) by Jonny P — 02 Oct 2009
The first hour and 10 minutes of this movie move pretty slowly, but it is well worth the slow plot development to watch Jimmy Stewart and Claude Rains pour their hearts out in monologues filled with raw emotion.
Jean Arthur is simply enchanting in all of her spunky glory - you will want her by the end of this film (yes, ladies included). If you are a fan of It's A Wonderful Life, you'll enjoy seeing 3 of it's lead actors performing together years before it came out! Though it calls the integrity of American politics into question, it does a great job of displaying the importance of denying political machines and cleaning our government of dirty politicians.
P.S. If you don't know what a filibuster is, you will after this film!
