Review of Mr. Saturday Night (1992) by Angels H — 03 Jan 2007
Billy Crystal's directorial debut (which he also stars, co-wrote and produced) is a very well made comedy/drama of the rise and fall of a talented but ill-tempered fictional 50's/60's comedian Buddy Young Jr.
, who tries to resurrect his career as an old man. Crystal's direction is done, the script is well-written and cinematography is beautiful to watch. While his character is pretty unlikeable but he shows off his dramatic chops really well but the film's best performance belongs to David Paymer who is terrfic in his Oscar nominated role as Young's put-upon brother.
A great watch.
