Review of Mr. Right (2016) by Junelkean — 29 Jun 2017
Mr. Right stars Sam Rockwell as a hitman who decides not to kill his targets, but instead kill the persons who hire him and Anna Kendrick as a heartbroken girl who eventually falls in love with Rockwell. What can be more pointless than that premise?
It is a rom-com, with killings and action, but this movie never succeeds in tying them together to create a cohesive and solid storyline. There is too much happening in the movie and due to this, the script written by Max Landis doesn't work to deliver its plot successfully. Also, the movie is slow paced at some parts and some of the scenes are senseless and disconnected to each other. The only hope for this movie is the chemistry between Kendrick and Rockwell and their quirky and clumsy performances.
VERDICT: With a paper-thin premise and an incoherent script from Landis, Mr. Right can only rely on the on-screen chemistry between the two lead actors.
