Review of Mr. Popper's Penguins (2011) by Andrew B — 27 Dec 2011
Before seeing it:
Okay, I like how they're using real penguins instead of cgi, but the trailer, while occasionally funny, didn't make the movie look all that great.
After seeing it:
Hmm... this was rather interesting, almost seemed kind of warped at times (ex. the positively proper lady Pippi with a preposterous "P" problem). It was pretty sweet, though, when Jim Carrey dedicates all that time awake watching over the unhatched egg, and when they traveled to Antarctica at the end. There were a number of pop culture references via Carrey, but none of those recent pop hits that inhabit Fox's "Chipmunks" franchise, and parts of it were funny. It still left me a little flat, even though it felt a little different than the usual. I'll re-watch it sometime and see what happens.
3/5 stars.
