Review of Mr. Popper's Penguins (2011) by Kurt E — 28 Jan 2012
It was dull and really stupid. I think they were way in over their heads trying to adapt this childhood classic. The book was not something that was meant to be turned into a movie. There are so many momments in this movie that didnt make much sense.
For instance the zoo official who has so many open opportunities to take the penguins but leaves without them every time just because Jim Carrey says "you cant take them". And the stupid zoo guy just says "OK, But I'll be back to get them next time".
I'm sitting there saying just take them now nobody is acctually going to stop you. That is just one of the many flaws in common sense that this film makes. There are various random lines that have nothing to do with scene thats going on just thrown in there for no apparent reason.
For example Jim Carrey randomly singing the word "America" towards the end of the film. I really could write a huge list that could go on forever about all the things that were bad about this film.
There are a few things the film got right the penguins were cute, extremely annoying but cute. So if you love penguins you will love this movie. Its a light humorous family movie. Weather you will like this film or not will be dependant on your preferance of movies.
If you like light humor family movies you will most likely enjoy this film. If you dont then obviously you wont be watching this movie anyways. In conclusion, I Yabsolutely dislike this film.
