Review of Mr. Popper's Penguins (2011) by Sarfaraz A — 01 Mar 2012
Thomas "Tom" Popper Jr. (Jim Carrey) is a divorced realtor whose father traveled to far places around the world during his (Popper Jr.) childhood. When his father dies, a crate containing a penguin arrives at his doorstep and due to a miscommunication, more penguins arrivex. Popper intends to donate the penguins to a zoo, but his children fall in love with those sweet birds. We have actually same usual story, ex-husband now realizes what a jerk he has been, and tries hard to keep up relation with his ex-wife blah blah blah.
Mr. Popper's Penguins lacks substance to stick us together. I have always been fan of Jim Carrey movies, whether received negatively or positively, they have always contained humor and jokes. I think film does give out hilarious scenes to enjoy irrespective of its plot. Some movies usually make me laugh in rather natural and healthy way, in which case, this film does succeed.
