Review of Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014) by Matthew O — 18 Apr 2014
Mr. Peabody and Sherman is one of those movies that begins great, but then goes downhill really, really fast. The film's opening, taking place in revolutionary France, is really fun and charming, truly living up to its namesake, but once the sequence is over problems start to occur.
The main issue with this movie is that it tries to follow other successful animated movies, which basically means it has to be funny, tug at the heart strings, have some conflict, and a moral at the end.
Sadly when the attempt starts Peabody and Sherman lose most of the charm from the start and the original shorts, and become copies of the tired formula we've seen time and time again. Overall a pretty disappointing film, I'd suggest to watch the original animated segments again, something that is worth your time a lot more.
