Review of Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014) by Jordan K — 20 Feb 2015

I didn't have high hopes for this film, lately Dreamworks hasn't delivered much at all. Things may have changed for once in Mr. Peabody and Sherman, based off the 1960s shorts. It's interesting and entertaining, and will deliver to both kids and adults - there's some humor issues, though, you'll get tired of Patrick Warburton's spartan character fast.

A genius dog and his adoptive son journey back in time with the WABAK machine, where Sherman ruins the future when taking his classmate Penny to certain parts in the past. Basically it's a kids' animated Bill & Ted, without much of a plot except Mr. Peabody (that's the dog, by the way) is struggling to prove himself as an interspecies parent.

It's entertaining and the historical aspect is fun, but the humor wears off fast - Mr. Peabody is always good, but Warburton and some of the historical exaggerations can get old. It's still a big leap from the stinker Turbo, and there's good chemistry between the main characters - Mr. Peabody and Sherman brings out the new age Dreamworks, where they don't have to bust out Shrek sequels everywhere.
