Review of Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014) by Maksim B — 13 Aug 2014

Sweet and cheerful, Mr.Peabody & Sherman is a colorful attempt for an all ages entertainment which probably succeeds to deliver the necessary fun for the young audiences, but fails to do the same for the more mature ones. Fast-paced and with characters brought up-to-date, it intrigues with its educational and family values. Yet, its confusing plot, uninteresting story and overlong development strip this cartoon from the possibility of being actually an entertaining delivery.

Director Rob Minkoff's cartoon deserves positive nods for the fact that it has managed to present outdated characters in a fresh and modern way. Lively, colorful and full of fun, the story is surely an adventurous experience for the youngest viewers. Unfortunately, in terms of a story there is too little meaningful content, in a fast-paced manner in which one gets bored and confused by the time travelling of Sherman. The forced overall humor and one-dimensional story development do not help the movie to become anything more than the mass mediocrity of animations that are released directly on DVDs.

Even though I would have liked to welcome Mr. Peabody & Sherman remake as a fresh one, there is too little positive words that could be said about it. Passable if you would like to please your young kids, this delivery is definitely not worth spending you time watching it if you are only grown-ups.
