Review of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (2007) by Michelle B — 27 May 2009
Contrary to the majority who saw this film as bland and boring, I really liked this film. I think why many people can't enjoy this it's because it IS simple compared to many films out there, who practically fill you with wonder, excitement and fantasies. This film isn't really out there to catch your imagination through stunning visual effects, but through simple effects that will garner a "What if that were true?" sort of feel.
Mr. Magorium quotes a Shakespeare work of how a character dies. "He dies." Simple, no fuss, no dramatic goodbyes, just that he dies... and it shook Mr. Magorium completely. That's how this movie was for me. It was just stated as it is, simple and so underwhelming, yet it affected me greatly. And because of that people miss what makes this movie incredibly special, that it is a reminder of how much we can love a person, and not in the typical romance way, how important life is to us and to just believe.
