This is a wonderful fable for the kid in all of us. Main ideals are making friends, using imagination and believing in yourself. Dustin Hoffman is great as the title character and is most imaginative. Natalie Portman is a little flat but mostly vulnerable.
And the rest of the cast is pretty secondary. This is a movie you shouldnt watch for the amazing plot, or wonderful premise, because it doesnt have one. But, what it does have is a great amount of heart and again imagination.
