Review of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium (2007) by Michael P — 13 Jul 2011
Ultimately...if you try to watch and critique this movie from a logical and realistic perspective you will more than likely find it mediocre at best, but if you just let go and forget any realism you may very well enjoy this movie, and that is not necessarily a bad thing. There are a few things, whether it be atrocious dialogue that aims to be funny and strange but is just stupid like ''It's strangely weird and weirdly strange'' and attempts as being ''whimsical'' which fall flat and don't contribute to the whimsicalness or magic AT ALL.But once and if you are able to overlook those unsightly blemishes you see a VERY good movie that is fairly unique not only for ''family'' movies but all movies in general. There is quite a bit of very witty and quite funny dialogue that was very well thought out and hardly pushed for,you find yourself giving off a hardly hearable laugh throughout the movie (or just laugh on ''the inside'') which isn't always a bad thing and far from it in this case,80% of the humor that is there feels natural and very funny.
Besides a couple small grimaces because of attempt at ''child and youthful'' humor that ends up feeling immature (and NOT in a good way) and impossible things happening that are not whimsical and neither contribute to the feel, mood,or movie...you have a unique and very well thought out movie that is far from the horrible professional reviews it has gotten.
