Ian gives us a different Holmes... Mr Holmes is just like a normal guy... He will get old and suffer from illness, he is ultimate alone and nobody can share life with him, he has his own pride and his regret, guilty , all complex feelings.
Maybe he finally know the meaning of life after he finished the letter, which maybe too late for him, maybe never too late. This could be what life supposed to be, something you never know.... I love this movie.
A little bit bitterness with a little bit humor. It has struck a responsive chord in my heart.
