MR. HOLMES-2015(PG)-Aug. 1.

Mr. Holmes is a charming, contemporary twist on the life of the iconic detective Sherlock Holmes. It's 1947 & having witnessed the devastation of nuclear war, ninety-three-year old Sherlock Holmes (Sir Ian McKellen) has retired to a seaside farmhouse where he has taken up beekeeping in the company of his housekeeper, Mrs. Munro (Laura Linney) & her young son, Roger (Milo Parker). For years, Mr. Holmes has been renown for utilizing the power of his keen mind to solve seemingly unsolvable cases. But these days, Mr. Holmes is dealing with memory loss & an obsession with the unsolved case from thirty years ago which forced his retirement. Based on the novel "A Slight Trick of the Mind" by Mitch Cullin, director Bill Condon & screenwriter Jeffrey Hatcher present a remarkably poignant look at the man behind the mysteries. The performances from Ian McKellen, Laura Linney & Milo Parker were spectacular and evoked a genuine empathy for each of the characters. So far, Ian McKellen has given the best performances of year & I hope he gets some award consideration. SEE THIS FILM.
