Review of Mr. Holmes (2015) by Richard S — 26 Feb 2016
This is a slow, sombre tale of Sherlock Holmes as an old man, battling to retain his wits as he desperately tries to recall the details of his final case some 20 years earlier and why this case forced him into seclusion. His greatest battle is separating fact from the fiction of Dr Watson who has long since left his side.
Ian McKellen is superb in the role and the make-up guys deserve an award for the subtle differences they applied to show an ageing Sherlock move from his 70's to 90's. It's a film that has you view Sherlock in a whole new light, a man so clever and brilliant yet also so very alone.
