Sir Ian McKellen plays Sherlock Holmes in his twilight years, retired to the country to tend his bees, but plagued by his last case that he never solved. A quiet and deliberately paced film, Mr Holmes is more about ageing and how our past defines us as people than it is about the famous detective.
