Review of Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) by Joe H — 02 Jul 2012
I never was interested in this movie until I watched it for one of my classes in college. The storyline was great and everyone was very true to character. A struggling composer becomes a high school teacher to make ends meet for his wife and soon his family when the couple welcome a little boy.
He is shocked to find out that his son is deaf and disappointed because music is such an important part of his life and that his child will never get to hear it. As the years go on and he mentors different sets of students over the decades he becomes more distant from his family.
When the music program is canceled he starts to doubt himself and his impact, only to be proven wrong by his friends, family, and the students he taught.
