Review of Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) by Særún G — 19 May 2008
Gary Cooper is fantastic and makes Longfeller Deeds into a character far more complicated than the story requires. This is definitely not due to the somewhat cheesy script, as the comical situations are mostly too obvious, the long courtsecuence irritating and the ending too happy and simple for my taste. It could also have benefitted from further developing its criticue of the media and materialism.
It is not one of Capras better films, but still a decent feel-good movie.
