Review of Mr. Deeds (2002) by Mikhail B — 18 Jan 2012
A kind-hearted simpleton from a countryside inherits a big fortune and a media empire from his eccentric uncle. As he arrives to the Big Apple, and the management prepares to buy off the corporation from the new owner, with dire consequences to the employees, he falls in love with an editor of a local TV channel who had wanted to ruin his image before finding out what a nice guy he really is.
He wrecks quite a havoc in the city and saves a number of lives (mostly, cats') before discovering that he hadn't inherited the fortune, after all. Adam Sandler plays a romantic idiot quite credibly, the situations are too crazy to be taken seriously, and so is the film.
Light entertainment lacking style.
