Review of Mr. Deeds (2002) by Raji K — 19 Jan 2012
If you like Adam Sandler and his style - this is a movie for you. It seems the director Steven Brill did everything he could to keep the focus on Adam Sandler and Winona Ryder. The movie is loosely a remake of the 1936 film Mr. Deeds Goes to Town - I haven't watched that one, and I thought that this one was funny and entertaining enough for a positive review!
The story developes with the death of the reach guy Preston Blake who freezes at the summit of Mount Everest with a triumphant smile on his face. Search for his heir founds that he has a living nephew named Longfellow Deeds (Adam Sandler) who runs a pizzeria in New Hampshire. Of course, Deeds is contacted and brought to New York City by attorney & businessman Chuck Cedar (Peter Gallagher). Plans are made for Deeds to sell his shares in the company to Cedar and return home $40 billion richer, but he must remain in New York for a few days as all the legal details are worked out... The story is major news, and reporter Babe Bennett, (Winona Ryder) manages to get close to the new reach guy!
By the way I do not care that this movie received three Razzie Award nominations including Worst Actor (Adam Sandler), Worst Actress (Winona Ryder) and Worst Remake or Sequel - I did not expect nothing more that average Adam Sandler humour - and I got just that!
