Review of Mr. Church (2016) by Judi M — 01 May 2017
Following a string of unsuccessful movies and after quite a long hiatus, Eddy Murphy is back on the silver screen with this 'old-fashioned' family drama. Bruce Beresford has crafted a beautiful and sensitive film about a man who's looking after a dying mom and her daughter, cooking for them and being present at all times.
It's an ode to these dedicated and quiet people that you never hear complain, but that manage to always be there, with you, trough thick and thin. This is, in my opinion, a very beautiful film, well shot, well acted and scored by a delightful jazzy soundtrack.
The movie is basically the spitting image of it's central character, quiet, smooth and harmonious. Definitely a nice story.
