Review of Mr. Brooks (2007) by Deb S — 23 Feb 2011
Kevin Costner is a successful businessman, well positioned within society. He is married to a beautiful woman, Marg Helgenberger (from CSI Las Vegas), with a college age daughter Danielle. He lives in a perfect world but things are not as perfect as they seem because Mr.
Earl Brooks is a schizophrenic serial killer with an alter ego played by William Hurt. Costner is the core character of the movie and he is surprisingly comfortable with his role, which is creepy but handsome, intelligent but crazy, realistically evil but a caring father.
He truly wants to stop his sick passion for killing people, but he just can't get over how much he gets off on it. When an immature shallow photographer who has a fascination with killing (Dane Cooke) catches Brooks in the act, he comes to him and tells him he wants in on the next kill.
With this pesky witness and a determined detective (Demi Moore) on his case, Mr. Brooks has to watch his every move. The movie throws in many interesting twists and turns to keep one on the edge of their seats.
