Despite the fact that Dane Cook in this movie wasn't particularly my cup of tea, I thought he played a good act. For the big bucks, I gotta give it to Costner and Hurt for an amazingly well connected portrayal of the double role.
It was not only convincing but very entertaining and dynamic. I don't agree with the opinion that it should have been made a dark comedy because I feel it would have made the movie less intriguing and catchy.
