Review of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948) by Joe S — 03 Jan 2012
Pleasant enough comedy that inspired 1986's The Money Pit with Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. Manhattanites chuck city life to buy a rundown farmhouse and chaos ensues. Grant and Loy have chemistry, but not on the level of Powell/Loy.
Douglas steals a few scenes as a family friend/attorney. Film becomes a bit predictable in the third act, and I'm not crazy with how Loy's character treats Grant. Then again, it's Myrna Loy.
She can do what she wants.
