Review of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948) by Patryk C — 26 Jul 2012
You thought that building a house in the countryside is an easy job? Well then, think again! As this delightful screwball comedy, directed by H.C. Potter, shows, it may end up being a truly Sisyphean task.
And funny too! The omnipresent absurdity of this movie provides many great laughs. The witty dialogues are the biggest quality of the movie. The amount of fantastically selected taunts and comebacks will definitely make your stomach hurt from all the laughing.
The casting of the characters is simply marvelous. Cary Grant in of his funniest roles, as a clumsy and disorganized man, trying to prove that he is able to build a home of his dreams. Myrna Loy as a woman, who loves to flirt and play on her husband's nerves.
Melvyn Douglas as the friend of the family, who is more of a burden than real help in the process. All in all, this timeless comedy should be in the watch list of every screwball lover.
