Review of Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) by Chads. — 18 Sep 2005
In the first big action set-piece, couldn't the screenwriter find a less convoluted way for both parties to kill each other? For symbolism's sake, sure, an all-out war in their own home makes sense.
But, for crying out loud, they both drive back home to do it. All of sudden, the assasins adopt a moral code of ethics, something akin to the Old West, in which both parties have an equal chance to blow each other away.
Why do they have to go back home for weapons? But stuff gets blown up, so nobody cares, right? Well, sort of. "Mr and Mrs. Smith" is a good film, that is, if you conceed the art of screenwriting, and champion spectacle over a coherent narrative.
