Review of Moving McAllister (2007) by Ef S — 16 Sep 2008
On the one hand, this movie actually made me laugh a bit. Jon Heder, who basically plays Napoleon Dynamite in every movie he has ever been in, managed to actually be funny as the overly spiritual Native American trapped in a white boy's body hitchhiker. Rutger Hauer is good as always (even when he's in terrible movies), and overall I left feeling like I had actually enjoyed it.
So why only two stars? This is a schizophrenic movie. At times it's funny. At others, they are vomiting profusely into a redneck hot tub or popping a massive back zit which, of course, results in a puss-in-the-face gag. There's a stolen truck. Killer rednecks. An Billy Drago as a cross dresser named The Lady who runs illegal cage matches. Had they gotten rid of all this... stuff (for lack of a better term) there would have been a predictable but good movie in here. But these are too many to ignore, and push this beyond the realm of cliched into the realm of utterly bizarre, too much so for its own good.
