Review of MouseHunt (1997) by Zachary R — 05 Dec 2012
This is a good Christmas, New Years, film that is sure to make any fan of family comedies appriciate. In this believe it or not, Gore Verbinski film we have two brothers Ernie and Lars Smuntz who's father who ran a wealthy string factory who's named Rudolph Smuntz dies.
They inherit the string factory along with a bunch of other small weird things that Lars is interested in because they are a family and they should honor their father's last wish, while Ernie doesn't care about any of it because he only cares about making it big.
In classic fashion the brothers go through there own downfall, Ernie get's axed from his job at the resturaunt because of a cockroach that go into the mayor's food, yes it really was the mayor, and he dies because of it.
Lars gets thrown out of his home because his wife can't mooch of the father's wealth anymore. This causes both Ernie and Lars to meet up and be both homeless and practically penniless. They find out and the beginning of the film that their father had owned a house that he squandered money against to pay his factory workers.
They go there to stay at the house only to find out that the house is a LaRue, a house maker who's houses are rare and worth a lot of money, so the brothers find this a time to get their life back on track.
The only thing is there is this mouse getting in the way, Ernie wants it dead because everything in the house needs to be perfect and no creature will ruin it. The thing is the mouse is going to make there lives hell, for it is a lot smarter than they think.
The brothers also run into a whole ton of other money troubles that cause problems with the house and themselves. Can the Smuntz brothers ever find that big break? This movie is tons of fun, you can really see the family dynamic that Nathan Lane and Lee Evans brings to the Smuntz brothers.
The mouse is also cool, even though they combine CGI, and real mouse footage, Plus with a great family plot and a wonderful score by Alan Silvestri this film is worth seeing if you haven't seen it yet.
10 out of 10.
