Review of Moulin Rouge! (2001) by Jonathan B — 18 Jun 2012
Moulin Rouge was a wonderful musical with a tremendous cast. I really had one gripe with the film and it was the length of the film, and usually I really enjoy long movies but here they seemed to write a script that tries to stretch a story a little too long.
But other than that I really loved this film. The script is clean, beautiful, and without flaws but I did still feel that it could've been much shorter and still be great. Ewan McGregor is admittingly one of my favorite modern actors, I mean I love him in almost all his performances and he was one of the reasons The Island (a Michael Bay film) wasn't a failure.
He is a great singer and actor and really stood his own ground. Nicole Kidman was incredible as well and somehow I think she really made the character better than it would've been with any other actress.
The music and song were beautiful and really made the film one of the best musical films I have ever seen. Moulin Rouge is a film with a story you may or may not forget, but for many years I still remember the songs and that is when you know its a great musical.
