Review of Moulin Rouge! (2001) by Rey V — 06 Jul 2012
One of the most thrilling, purely cinematic experiences I've ever seen. Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! is a manic, breakneck ode to art, passion, and life. Wearing its moral like a tattoo and proclaiming it at every possible moment ("The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return"), the film is a shamelessly romantic frenzy.
Costumed like a lavish period drama, designed like a 1950s Hollywood production in garish Technicolor, scored like a jukebox musical, and edited like a music video, Moulin Rouge! is a strange and wonderful beast.
