To this day, my all-time favorite movie. Several hundred viewings later (I am not exaggerating) it holds up as fun, fast, flamboyant, and heartbreaking. The cast is brilliant (even those who aren't the best singers), the story is wonderful, the song choices are exceptional, and the direction is tight and controlled without seeming too overwhelming.
Call it a guilty pleasure if you must, but "Moulin Rouge!" sets an example for what musical filmmaking can and should be.
