Review of Moulin Rouge! (2001) by G Thomas B — 21 May 2015
An over the top, Shakespearean-reminiscent sensation. I didn't like it for the first 25 or so minutes but then I very quickly fell in love with it. As a musical lover, it was hard to keep listening for original music and having to wait but at the same time easy to accept some of the more obvious plot holes.
Kidman and McGregor have believable chemistry and the editing is Spectacular Spectacular. Even though one of the best parts of the plot is given away in the first few minutes of the movie, I genuinely felt for the characters several times and it's a great story within a story within a story.
