Review of Mother's Day (2016) by Greg B — 03 May 2016
"Mother's Day" is a pastiche of different stories of mothers going through disparate but sympathetic circumstances with their respective families around the titular holiday. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, and Julia Roberts.
Unfortunately, the film doesn't really do anything with its cast and gives us a flat, predictable script with almost no emotional tangibility. A lot of the scenes are schmaltzy and are intentionally there to induce waterworks.
It sets up like a vignette from the Hallmark Channel with individual stories we can't really latch onto. The final product feels disorganized and somehow incomplete. In "Crash," everything comes together, but in this film, everything feels detached ------------------------------------------------- C.
