Review of Mother's Day (2016) by Ada U — 01 Jan 2019
Please, please, please, casting directors there are black female actresses in the world, who are not obese and sassy. there is not only one way that black women look. Stop it. how can you have a film full of every shape, size and age of white woman and yet the only black woman you can find is obese and written as the only sassy, neck rolling person in the movie?? please just stop it.
it's lazy, stereotypical casting. it ruins your films for me as a black woman who is tired of seeing just one representation of us, time and time again. honestly, just try a smidgen harder and stop disrespecting your black viewers by throwing us a pathetic bone.
i'd rather you didn't have black woman in the movie if the only thing you can do is reach for the same tired old stereotype.
