Review of Mother and Child (2009) by Prudence L — 24 May 2010
Rodrigo Garcia' s "Mother and Child" is both a heart-warming, touching, emotional effective, and a sometimes a hauntingly erotic film. Its funny and sometimes its sad and with a good character study about motherhood, children, regret, love and suburban lives makes "Mother and Child" one of the best films of the year so far.
The films special gift is its top-notch performances by its three main leads: Annette Benning, Naomi Watts and Kerry Washington, who give such humane performances. But Samuel L. Jackson and Jimmy Smits don't fall to far behind as they to give good supporting roles.
Director Rodrigo Gracia makes it calm and sensitive with some dark and effective moments scattered throughout the complexed hyper-linked story. Or in other words its just like "Crash or "Babel" in its structure with its interlocking stories.
I found "Mother and Child' to be well acted, well written, and well directed which makes it an a good melodramatic film (at last).
