Review of Mother and Child (2009) by Cristian B — 20 Jun 2010
An absorbing and moving drama featuring three outstanding performances. The story may be a bit uneven at times, but the honesty of the acting and writing make up for that. Writer/director Garcia maneuvers the emotionally difficult terrain of adoption with wit and heart.
There are many moments of surprising humor and raw emotion. Bening, Watts, and Washington do some of their best work as the three women affected by the adoption process. With Bening giving an award-worthy performance.
The overall impact was funny, heartfelt, and moving.
