Truly a special film. Hated and loved by the critics. Aronofsky has been big on the map for a while now, and with big leads it's understandable that it's getting a lot of hype.

Jennifer Lawrence as "Mother" and Javier Bardem as "him" is living inside a house. They repaire it, decorate it, live in it. He is a poet, she does all the work around there. Some people come over, they spend a lot of time here. She is not so sure about them, she never like them. He is milder, with a "sharing is caring" attitude. Every scene is sat in the house, things slowly escalates and all of a sudden there are loads of people here. Now, Mother is pregnant as well - this won't end well.

Original, smart and pure film - it's bringing something new to the party. Not ment as criticism of religion, more a way of showing how we treat this world of ours and have done in a long time. It's a huge film, trying to pull of the act of big art for a massive audience, not an easy task, but I think Aronofsky does well. He has done solid films earlier, this is not his best, but far from his worst effort.

Not much of a horror, really, until the end that is. It got elements of humor, but is after all mostly a drama for sure. Symbolism is everything here. There is no doubt about it. It makes no sense without the symbolism, make sure you use them and the metaphores while watching it, then it may interest you. The stuff is not especially hidden and should be easy to spot for everyone. It's essential for the film, actually.

So, a film with fantatstic sound, great looks and swell performances. The four people with the most screentime delivers. It's never dragged and got a nice pace and climax development. I guess I'm on the "love"-side on this one. It may have been a bit too much of everything here, but for me, it's still something very fresh.

8 out of 10 symbols.
