Review of mother! (2017) by Robert W — 03 Oct 2017
While it's, at times, a lot to stomach and certainly pushes the envelope with its intense visual metaphors, it excels in evoking a deliberate series of visceral responses from the viewer. I see the film as the physical manifestation of *the creative process* itself - an elaborate allegory for creation.
To me, the actual chain of events and the 'full circle' unfolding of the plot depict the dichotomy of the creative endeavor: both absolutely dependent on AND thoroughly hindered/obfuscated BY outside influences.
A dark, twisted masterpiece of an IDEA and its messy execution. A+.
