Review of mother! (2017) by Jess_Hill — 16 Sep 2017
Phenomenal.
But first, a disclaimer: You need to have an exceptional knowledge of the Bible (or at least the broad strokes) in order to 'get' this film. A stunning allegory on the nature of both the divine and humanity, the is an extendedPhenomenal.

A stunning allegory on the nature of both the divine and humanity, the is an extended metaphor that is superbly crafted and deeply unsettling. Lawrence and Bardem are magnificent, and the intimate cinematography further enhances the unfolding horror at the centre of the plot. Dripping with symbolism and layered with intertextuality and subtext, this is a thoroughly difficult yet sublime experience. The trailer is both accurate and deeply misleading at the same time, and it is horrifying but this is not a horror film. 8.
