Gorgeously conceived and directed. I'm not sure why this allegory about the Christian paradigm and humankind's disrespectful treatment of Mother Earth is causing such controversy. Traditional religions depend upon parables and allegories.
Aronofky's is layered, interesting, thought-provoking, and artful. I marveled at the production and enjoyed unpacking the tale with my intelligent boyfriend. My only critical observation was that I think Aronofsky was so (understandably) enamored with Jennifer Lawrence that he missed the chance to spend more time dialing in on Javier Bardem's "character.
