Review of mother! (2017) by Jenna%20 H — 21 Sep 2017
I wonder what makes a movie horrible in some people's eyes. The camera work was beautiful- stylized and thoughtful, the story was pulled through and the acting by Lawrence and Bardem was intense. If viewers disliked the film because they didn't "understand" it, then watch the film again.
If a film confuses you the first reaction could be one of intrigue instead of hatred. Aronofsky incorporates both biblical and film history into his film (possibly playing off of the work of Hitchcock and Tarkovsky).
Give this film a chance, let it wash over you instead of rejecting the fact that not everything will have a logical explanation. Film is a mysterious thing and if you want something that simply entertains you and leaves you with no questions then maybe the film isn't for you.
That does not mean you get to label it a horrible film after all the thought, work and time that was put into it. It did not get 5 stars because I think the violence at toward the end was excessive.
