Review of mother! (2017) by Jordan A — 15 Sep 2017
Things it is not: not for everyone, not for the inattentive, not for the impatient, not for those who want clarity in plot, not for the sensitive, not a good date night movie, not for the immature, not for the easily offended, not a horror movie, not created for mass appeal, and not pretentious (despite what some reviewers have said).
Things it is: thought provoking, filled with great acting, slow and deliberate, offensive, for fans of Aronofsky, multi-layered, metaphorical, allegorical, frustrating, nauseating, challenging, moving, and thought-provoking (yes, it needs to be stated twice).
It really isn't a film for someone who prefers "fun" and easy films, this just isn't that film. But if you enjoy difficult art generally, you will appreciate it.
