The Emperor's New Clothes.
Let's imagine we're talking about a new song that came out. The song is full of dissonant chords and inexplicable key changes. It has jarring time signatures that change throughout. The lyrics make no sense whatsoever. The raucous blend of instruments is a cacophony of noise that is excruciating to listen to. How do you think you would rate this new song? You'd say it was a piece of garbage, and rightly so.
Mother! is exactly that. It is an extraordinarily pretentious concatenation of nonsensical images with no discernible narrative, unintelligible characters, a ludicrous finale, and a host of other exasperating reasons to hate this. This is possibly one of the most self-indulgent, turgid, overblown and ridiculous films ever made. Utter garbage pretending to be a psychological masterpiece.
Let's not kid ourselves. This is the worst song you've ever heard in your life, except it's a 2 hour movie.
