Review of mother! (2017) by Lisa C — 15 Sep 2017
First, recognize that this is a surrealist work. Aronofsky is in interested in the darker aspects of his psyche and portrays the a dream-like form. For me, this was a movie about our grievances - the people around us thwart the lives we intend for ourselves - our spouses are selfish, our friends are cruel, our children impose chaos on the order we strive to maintain, the outside world imposes it's ugliness upon our inner world.
I FELT this movie. A few aspects were unnecessary - the thing in the toilet, the bloody floor, her charred face, but I'll forgive those excesses in appreciation for a challenging and meaningful film.
