Review of mother! (2017) by Anna B — 15 Sep 2017
I thought maybe it was a little too obvious and heavy-handed in its allegory, but reading comments afterwards it seems a lot of people missed it somehow. I like that something this confrontational and bizarre can be released alongside The Emoji Movie, but I suppose that's par for the course when it comes to Aronofsky.
I know this could be seen as a reverential re-telling of an important story, but it came across to me as "religion corrupts society" which I found pretty entertaining even when the misanthropy got overwhelming.
