Review of mother! (2017) by Darth V — 17 Sep 2017
This film is a spectacle, and worth sitting through for that reason alone. For discerning movie goers, it's a bit of a chore, but has some thought-provoking themes and elements. The message is timely and important, but it tales a while to sort out. After you've settled down and stopped trying to determine what so many highly acclaimed actors are doing in this film, things start to fall into place and then the message gets clarified...and you are half-way through the film and want to hit rewind so you can see it from the beginning in the proper context. "God" is portrayed as a self-absorbed poet who 'forgives' his most brutal and destructive fans; Mother Earth is practical, and defensive, attempting against every force to preserve her home. Along come Adam and Eve, Caine and Able, and the wanton destruction man brings to this planet. There is no happy ending, and if you astro-project what happens to our planet under the current rate of depletion, you get a picture of where this picture goes.
Its a loud and relentless warning to mankind, and an unflattering description of human history.
