I thought it was one of the better films I've seen this year. I'm guessing people didn't like it because it doesnt paint a very flattering picture of us? The allegory was pretty obvious, but very critical of religion.

Maybe that also has something to do with it too. We certainly dont like to be told our faith is wrong or misplaced. Hits a little too close to home. That and the overt environmental overtones are likely not a plus for the folks who applaud the current administration's pick for head of the EPA; an inept moron whose aim seems to be to work himself out of a job.
